Wellness Center Policies

The Virginia Schoepe Wellness Center is a new, state-of-the-art facility. In order to continue to provide this excellent work out environment, the following information is provided and must be followed.

  • Appropriate workout attire MUST be worn at all times.
  • Athletic footwear is required. Tennis, jogging, court, cross-training or aerobic shoes are acceptable.
  • A full shirt, with sleeves, at least as long as a T-shirt is required. Halter tops, tank tops or half-shirts are not allowed. Leotards with sleeves are also acceptable. If your leotard does not have sleeves you must wear a T-shirt over the sleeveless uniform.
  • Athletic shorts, tights or warm-up pants are all acceptable.
  • Shorts / Pants with belts and/or zippers is not allowed.
  • Cut-offs and denim shorts are not allowed.

Workout Towels

Each student must have a towel when using the Wellness Center. Students not having a towel will not be permitted to participate. The towel must be carried with you throughout the workout. It should be used to wipe off the upholstery as you leave each piece of equipment and to place between you and the equipment to keep the machines as clean and dry as possible.

Shower and Locker Room Facilities

  • Shower facilities and lockers are available. Student must supply his or her own lock and towel.
  • See locker room personnel to be issued a locker. Must present current printout of class schedule.

Fitness Program

Each participant should meet with your instructor who will assist in the selection and preparation of an individualized total fitness program and fitness contract suited to individual needs, goals and interests.

Student workout time

  • Students may only workout during their regularly assigned class hours. For make-up policy – see your instructor.
  • Guests and/or non-enrolled adults are not permitted to workout or use the facility. Children are not allowed in the facility at any time.

Warm-Up & Cool-Down

All participants should do a 5-10 minute warm-up before performing any strenuous exercise. Stretching exercises should be included in this warm up activity. Just as important as the warm- up is the cool-down after any work out. You should cool-down gradually before ending any routine, which should also include stretching exercises.

Monitoring Exercise Heart Rate

All participants should know their Target Heart Rate and should try to work within the ACSM guidelines. It is important to monitor your Exercise Heart Rate during cardiovascular training.

Warning: Vigorous Exercise

  • Consult your physician before initiating any exercise program. A medical release is required of students age 45 or older before engaging in physical activity.
  • Read all safety warnings prior to using any machine.
  • Cardiovascular Training, Strength Training and other vigorous activities involve an element of risk. To reduce the risk of serious bodily injury – stop exercising if you experience chest pain, have difficulty breathing, feel dizzy, faint, are overly tired or experience severe muscular or skeletal discomfort – see instructor immediately!
  • The instructor reserves the right to request a student enroll in another class and/or activity if this class proves too difficult for the student or if the student’s safety is in jeopardy because of their skill/fitness level.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to alert the instructor of any special accommodations or needs that they may require.
